How DITA can be used to break content down into logical, granular chunks to be used across publications and delivery channels
A useful tool on the road to semantics
DITA in the delivery of an optimal end user experience:
- The Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) specification is an open standard that defines a set of document types for authoring content into granular topics.
- The topics are the foundation for reuse – whether it is across publications, lines of business, or brands. Especially useful in “how to” and learning material,
- Topics are classified into five types:
- Task
- Reference
- Concept
- Glossary entry
- Troubleshooting
A layer of semantics is created for each. - The Knowledge Management team at LinkedIn, which creates and manages the Help Center content, is implementing DITA as part of a larger roadmap to implement semantics across Help Center articles.
- DITA will provide structure to the content by breaking it down into smaller components and applying document types and metadata to these “component parts.”
- The value of implementing DITA as part of a larger strategy to improve content semantics.
- The limitations of DITA as a semantic data architecture.
