As Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at the TRPL, Matt Briney leads the Library’s bold vision to inspire action in the arena through storytelling, technology, and civic engagement. He oversees an integrated marketing and communications strategy that brings the Library’s values—leadership, citizenship, and conservation—to life across digital and physical platforms.

Briney is a driving force behind Trailblazer, the Library’s AI-powered engagement platform, which transforms each visitor’s journey into a personalized, participatory experience - connecting Roosevelt’s enduring legacy to contemporary life. By combining immersive storytelling, wearable tech, and adaptive digital content, he helps redefine what a presidential library can be: a place where the visitor is the hero, and history becomes a catalyst for today’s changemakers.

Before joining TRPL, Briney served as Vice President of New Media at George Washington’s Mount Vernon, where he spearheaded award-winning digital experiences including the Be Washington Interactive Theater. His work blended historical fidelity with forward-looking innovation - principles that continue to guide his efforts at TRPL.

Earlier in his career, he built a foundation in digital marketing and technology, leading CRM, analytics, and content strategy initiatives for a broad range of organizations, including nonprofits, political campaigns, and Fortune 500 clients. Throughout, he has championed digital transformation as a tool for participation, education, and civic dialogue.

A graduate of Virginia Tech, Briney brings a deep commitment to education, the arts, and technology. At the TRPL, he helps ensure that storytelling remains not only accurate and authentic, but also inspirational and actionable inviting every visitor to step into the arena.
